Stephanie Altman
Board Member
Stephanie is an attorney and public sector leader with more than 15 years of experience advancing equitable, community-centered outcomes across government, nonprofit, and international settings. Most recently, Stephanie served with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as a legal advisor and diplomat supporting rule of law, humanitarian, and governance initiatives across Africa.
She previously served as an attorney with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), where she advised on climate change, ocean protection, international law, and judicial training initiatives to strengthen legal frameworks and institutional capacity. Stephanie also served as an envoy to the European Commission on forestry and governance trade agreements, advancing transatlantic cooperation on sustainable resource management, and as a legal advisor to the Government of Liberia, supporting governance reforms in the natural resources sector. Across these roles, Stephanie has focused on how legal systems can either reinforce or dismantle structural inequities, particularly for communities disproportionately impacted by economic and regulatory systems.
Stephanie is a Boulder Leadership Fellow, a Commissioner on the Sustainable Futures Commission (Boulder County), and a Board Member of Keep Colorado Beautiful. She is motivated by Equal Justice Under Law’s mission to end wealth-based discrimination and ensure the justice system promotes opportunity rather than perpetuating cycles of poverty. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and biking with her family.
