Mary Withycombe

Office Manager/Paralegal

Mary graduated with honors from the Political Philosophy, Policy, and Law program at the University of Virginia. During her time at UVA, Mary co-founded the Undergraduate Women in Law organization, coached public forum debate at local middle schools, served on the Student Legal Services Advisory Board, and was a proud resident of 51 West Lawn.

Prior to Equal Justice Under Law, Mary worked in family law at Fayez, Goriup, McRae, where she assisted primarily with child custody cases. Most recently, she worked at The Law Office of Deborah M. Golden, providing legal support for incarcerated clients.

Despite being two different fields of law, both experiences deeply informed Mary’s passion for serving people and promoting transformative, accessible justice. She translated this passion into volunteer work, serving as a volunteer hotline operator at Charlottesville’s Shelter for Help in Emergency for two years. Mary’s volunteer work meant that she coordinated shelter for intimate partner violence survivors in high risk situations, connected them with free legal services, and helped shelter residents with daily needs. She is excited to continue working towards better justice with Equal Justice Under the Law.
